Donald says he will Eventually Win The Open

Golf’s world number one Luke Donald believes that a win in the British Open will happen to him, eventually. Having missed a cut at the US Open earlier in the season, Donald mounted a comeback of sorts and finished at T-5 in the recently concluded Major event, finishing level with fellow British golfer Graeme McDowell. Recording a one under par 69 in the last round of the event, Donald was able to match McDowell’s score of two under par score in the tournament. This is the second time that he finished with a T-5 at Turnberry, having achieved the same feat back in the 2009 edition of The Open Championship.

Many golf commentators hail Donald for the way he never gives and fights on till the last shot of a tournament. As a result, his performance in the final day at Royal Lytham did not come as a surprise to many. And according to Luke Donald, one can learn a lot from his poor performances of the past, just the way he did from his nightmarish performance at the US Open.

Donald also stated that failing to reach one’s own expectations affects the game a lot and his mental strength at the British Open was almost zero, and as a result, he is considering his performances this week as a huge improvement in terms of his future achievements.

And now, he believes that he has the capability and the ability to take the Claret Jug from the Open Championship and plans on achieving the feat soon. And another good news for Luke Donald was the way Lee Westwood as well as Rory McIlroy, the closest rivals he has in terms of the world rankings, finished a long way down the leader board. And Donald hopes a little bit of luck will land him the title in the future.

Luke Donald expecting a major Challenge

It is a coveted title in the world of golf and English professional golfer Luke Donald can claim to be the best golfer to have never won a major event. The world’s number one ranked golfer was overdrew previous weekend at the Olympic Club, San Francisco in the US Open, where he hit 79 – 72 and escaped the cut by 3 shots.

On Thursday, before going to the Ralph Lauren shop on the Madison Avenue, he told that it was really disappointing when one comes with huge expectations and feeling confident. The US Open is difficult every time. Each and every error is magnified. He was not swinging quite well. It was very dissatisfactory for the 34 year old golfer, but still one always have to learn and have more opportunities.

Luke clearly believes about the scopes that have bygone by wayside in his thirty-yhree starts in major events since turning into professional in the year 2001. After 4 years, 13 professional victories, and 2 simultaneous money awards on both Europe and America previous year, Luke has started to adjoin on a theory about why major events have been his booger.

He stated that one could not alter his approach mentally. Probably it is a place that he has to think about it. He thinks that probably he needs to play a bit more conservatively. And that is something he could work on. He needs to play from inside, it is not that you just go home and start dreaming that you will play good tomorrow.

Donald Puts Up Spirited Effort at TPC Sawgrass

World number two Luke Donald seemed to finish like a train at the final rounds of the US PGA Players Championship – but then, went on to put all the flight plans on hold as the Englishman found himself with an opportunity to take the title at The Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass. Donald started the last round at the TPC Sawgrass from 27th position but he went on to equal the record that is set at the richest event of golf with a back nine 30 that contained as many as six birdies.

Having set the club house target of nine under par with the 66 that he pulled off, Donald found himself tied for third spot in the leader board, when he was only two shots behind the leader. But this was as much due to his credit as to the discredit of Kevin Na, the American shooting two nervous bogeys at the fifth and the sixth holes. At that time, Luke Donald was in a position to reclaim the top spot in the world golf rankings if he could finish the event with a solo fourth or better than that and he found himself there in the company of Martin Laird.

Speaking to the reporters after the event, Donald stated that all of a sudden, all the putts seemed to click in and he managed to get a nice run. Moreover, the wind direction also favored him and so did the greens, which were holding out.

But in spite of all his efforts, he still had to see Matt Kuchar lift the title for the first time and he congratulated him as well. Luke Donald also added that he was scheduled to fly to Chicago but when he saw a chance, he decided to stick around for some more time, but in vain, as it turned out.

DONALD FAVOURITE IN RETURN

Having lost out on his top spot to youngster Rory McIlroy after he won the Honda Classic a couple of weeks back, former world number one golfer Luke Donald is back again on Tour, aiming to take back the title that he lost when he threw away his match in the World Golf Championship: Accenture Match Play Championship, inadvertently costing him the number one crown.  With McIlroy and another contender to the number one title Lee Westwood taking the week off, experts view Donald’s decision at playing on this week as wise as it gives him the opportunity to cut the lead that McIlroy has at the top.

Moreover, after finishing extremely poorly in the World Golf Championship: Cadillac Championship this week, Luke Donald will be aiming to set things into motion ahead of the next Major tournament by getting his stroke play on the right track, which was one of the main reasons for him losing out in the earlier rounds of the tournament.

He will be a part of the Transitions Championships, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the PGA Tour where he will have to compete with the likes of Webb Simpson, Peter Hanson, Jim Furyk and Justin Rose, but according to the bookies, Donald is their favorite to win the tournament and get his rankings in order once again.

However, that is not easy as it sounds with almost all the players playing in the tournament to mark gather some much needed ranking points and this might prove to be detrimental for Luke Donald, who does not have much experience of playing there before. But on the other hand, having been a world number one, he should be ready to take everything in his stride if he wants to reclaim his number one crown sooner than later.

DONALD BESTED BY ELS

The very first round of the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championships saw perhaps one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game as world number one golfer Luke Donald received an old fashioned spanking from Ernie Els, the lowest ranked player in the tournament to get knocked out of the championship that he won handsomely last season. Els spanked the defending champion Donald 5 & 4 in the first round match on the 22nd of February, 2012 to bury the ghosts of his horrible form going into the tournament.

Donald hardly got the space and time to settle down in the game as Els raced to a lead in the very first round after Donald had sunk the ball in the water. The only time that Luke Donald managed to pull level with the South African was on the par-four seventh when he scored his one and only birdie putt of the match. Ever since that hole, Donald seemed to be struggling at all points of the game against a man who, even the punters refused to put their money on.

At one point in the match, it almost seemed that Donald would be happy to run away and hide and not play the game but that didn’t happen and he was thrashed by Els, a term that is used on extremely rare occasions on a sport such as golf. After he squared the match, Donald hardly seemed to be the world number one player and fell behind by five shots by the completion of the next seven holes.

However, Luke Donald almost immediately acknowledged that the better player won the match and admitted that he struggled against the South African Els, saying that he needed to work a lot on his game from now on.

DONALD IS WORLD NUMBER ONE

Luke Donald, the 34-year-old Englishman, is the World No. 1 ranked golf player since May 2011 after the win at the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship. He had a near perfect year, being the first player to win the money list of both the PGA Tour and European Tour this year. He also became the first Englishman to win both the PGA Player of the Year and PGA Tour Player of the Year award in 2011

In spite of his word ranking, Donald is yet to win a major title. He has been consistent, creating 17 of 19 cuts on the PGA Tour and winning it twice. He even won two European tournaments. His exceptional form in the front nine lead to his victory and his ranking improved to No. 3.

Luke Donald defeated Lee Westwood in a playoff to bag the flagship event- BMW PGA Championship held at the Wentworth Club. Westwood was the number one player at the start of the tournament, but during the tournament, it was contest between the second and first ranked players to win the top rank. Donald played a grand pitch on the first playoff, leaving himself a six feet for birdie. Westwood tried to unsuccessfully follow suit and ended in the water. Donald was left to hole out for birdie after Westwood chipped out from the drop zone. This ensured Luke Donald the win and he became the third Englishman to achieve the World No. 1 ranking.

Luke Donald became the Player of the Year after he secured 88% of the votes. He had a great year, winning four titles, finishing in the top ten 14 times in 19 events, and he also finished 2011 maintaining his No.1 rank.
